Just a note to all non-members looking to buy from the farmstand that we are closed for the month of September while we transition from summer to fall crops. Our CSA members should already know that we also suspend our weekly harvest deliveries during this time. The farmstand sales will resume September 30th from noon to 1:00 PM, and the CSA farm pick-up which runs the normal times of 10:00 AM to noon, will also start back that day.
We are proud to announce that Hilltop Farms has been chosen to be one of ten farms on the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association's 1st Annual Eastern Triangle Farm Tour. The tour is co-sponsored by Whole Foods Market and NCSU and NC A&T Universities' Cooperative Extension Services and will be held Saturday and Sunday, September 23rd & 24th from 1 to 5 PM each day. There are ten farms scattered across Wake, Franklin and Johnston Counties for your to visit. The cost is $30 per carload days of tour or $25 when pre-purchased. The other option is to pay $10 per car to visit each individual farm. Our farmstand will be open both days selling produce and Hilltop Farm T-shirts to visitors.
There will be a kick-off promotion at Whole Foods Market on Wade Ave. in Raleigh on Thursday, September 21st, with free food. There will also be music provided by the greatest band in the area, Big Head Dog! (Did I mention that that's my band?) Festivities start with food grilling at 6:00 PM and the band plays from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. You can get tour info and maps at the kick-off and purchase tour tickets then. You can also buy your tickets (or buttons) online at www.carolinafarmstewards.org, as well as any Whole Foods in the area including Durham and Chapel Hill, Harmony Farms and Triangle Nutrition in Raleigh, and the Wake Forest Farmers Market. The farms included on the tour are Hilltop Farms, Brinkley Farms, New Light Farm, Melvin's Gardens Herb Farm, Shiloh Farm & Retreat, Mae Farm, Freedom Farms, Vollmer Farm, Double T Farm, and Avillion Farm. Quoting from the CFSA's brochure for the tour, "By touring local farms, you'll get an up-close and personal look at sustainable pasture-based livestock practices and learn how local farmers are growing vegetables and fruits using organic and sustainalbe methods. Make it a learning experience for the whole family. Fill up your car with family and friends - you'll save money by carpooling! - and start learning how you can support the local sustainable agricultural endeavors in your own neighborhood!"
Hope to see you then....
Down on the Farm!
P.S. I'm compilling a waiting list for our 2007 CSA program, so send me an email if you wish to join for next year. Thanks!
